History – This is the story of Jessica Banish, a seasoned negotiator with extensive experience in procuring contracts for major suppliers serving large corporations, brings a wealth of expertise to the table, honed through her tenure at GE. Hailing from the heart of Kentucky, a region renowned for its equestrian culture and fine bourbon, Jessica, alongside her husband and three children, transitioned from suburban living to the idyllic countryside. Embracing the rich heritage of their surroundings, they transformed a historic general store on their property into a symbol of Kentucky pride, where they embarked on a new venture: crafting bourbon. Each key on the bottle represents the three sons that Jessica has. Each key on the bottle is different symbolizing this and her focus and dedication of this bourbon as a tribute to them.
Inspired by their deep-rooted connection to Kentucky and motivated by the desire to forge their own path, Jessica and her husband made the bold decision to venture into bourbon production. Their vision materialized in the form of Three Keys Distillery, a testament to the values of grassroots entrepreneurship and the resilient spirit of the Bluegrass State. Drawing upon their shared experiences and a dedication to quality, they embarked on a journey that led them to Moonshine University, where they immersed themselves in the intricacies of bourbon production, from chemistry to legal regulations.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Three Keys Distillery persevered, adapting to the shifting landscape by offering their product online across 48 states. Jessica’s meticulous approach to sourcing the finest ingredients, coupled with a commitment to traditional, artisanal methods, ensures that each bottle of Three Keys Distillery embodies the essence of Kentucky’s esteemed distilling tradition.
Crafted from a mash bill of 70% Kentucky corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley, Three KeysDistillery is a certified Kentucky product, with the majority of its ingredients sourced directly from local farmers. With a focus on authenticity and quality, their bourbon is aged for a minimum of two years, with select batches aged up to four years in one to twelve barrels, resulting in a harmonious blend of flavor and character.
Behind the scenes, Jeff Tarae oversees the financial aspects of the operation, while partners Rob Seweryniak and Tim Bannish contribute their expertise to ensure the success and sustainability of the brand. Together, they are committed to upholding the legacy of Three Keys Distillery, delivering a product that captures the essence of Kentucky’s storied distilling heritage. Let’s dig in!
Appearance – The story behind appearance resonates with me as it should for any mother or father. With each key on the bottle symbolizing another child’s life makes me fall in love with this design. I have two children myself and Jessica really hit the nail on the head with this idea. Very impressed.
Nose – Delightfully fruit-forward, the nose of this bourbon bursts with the enticing aromas of ripe cherry and tangy sour apple, balanced by the luxurious notes of maple syrup and honey. It exudes refinement and richness, leaving the senses eagerly anticipating the tasting experience ahead.
Palate – The warm embrace of cinnamon and clove dances gracefully with the indulgent sweetness of caramel, reminiscent of a delectable bread pudding. Each sip reveals layers of depth, showcasing the bourbon’s impressive complexity without overwhelming the palate. It strikes a perfect balance between richness and lightness, ensuring a truly satisfying experience.
Finish – The finish is equally remarkable, with lingering notes of waffles accompanied by a subtle wisp of charcoal smoke and the comforting embrace of seasoned wood. A cooling sensation gently washes over the palate for a flawless 15 seconds, offering the ideal conclusion to this exquisite bourbon journey. It delivers just the right amount of intensity, affirming its identity as a bourbon of exceptional quality and character.
Value – This value is on point to what you would expect for a bourbon of this nature. It would be great if it was under $50 but understood that for craft distilleries there has to be profit built in.
Summary – In closing, Three Keys Distillery is not just a libation; it’s a narrative woven from the threads of tradition, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Jessica Banish’s journey from corporate negotiation rooms to the rustic charm of Kentucky’s bourbon country epitomizes the spirit of entrepreneurship and dedication to craft. With each sip, you’re not just tasting bourbon; you’re experiencing the culmination of a family’s passion and commitment to their heritage. From its fruit-laden nose to its lingering, seasoned wood finish, every element of Three Keys Distillery speaks volumes about the dedication and artistry behind its creation. So, whether you’re savoring it neat or crafting your favorite cocktail, raise your glass to the spirit of Kentucky and the legacy of Three Keys Distillery. Cheers to craftsmanship, to family, and to the enduring allure of the Bluegrass State.
