History – Varchas emerges as the brainchild of a visionary tech tycoon who pivoted from circuits to casks, blending the heritage of Mysore with a passion for American spirits. Rooted in the storied city of Mysore, famed for its historical feats, Varchas parallels the journey of its founder with the legacy of the Mysore Kingdom.
Driven by a thirst to marry American whiskey with Indian resilience, Varchas was born from the ambitions of a man who conquered the digital domain but hungered for new frontiers in spirits. Despite corporate demands, his whiskey dreams simmered until his pursuit of excellence ignited a global quest for palate perfection.
The adventure unfolds with Varchas’ iconic packaging, featuring a dual-headed eagle reminiscent of Mysore’s emblem, melding ancient sovereignty with modern aspirations. With a metallic American Eagle stopper, it embodies the fusion of old-world triumphs and new-age innovation.
At the heart of Varchas lies Shankar Distillers, a pinnacle of technology ensuring unrivaled quality. From grain milling in the Dry Hammer Mill to fermentation in 1,500-gallon fermenters, precision reigns supreme.
Within the towering 45-foot continuous distillation column, tradition meets innovation as grains transform into liquid gold, visible from the bustling I-75 highway.
Varchas celebrates diversity with meticulously crafted whiskey, vodka, and gin, each a masterpiece of distillation artistry.
The Rickhouse, a natural sanctuary devoid of climate control, ages spirits to perfection, guided by Michigan’s ever-changing seasons.
Each bottle of Varchas carries not only the creator’s spirit but tales of triumph and resilience. In a world of cultural convergence, Varchas stands as a testament to passion and craftsmanship. Let’s dig in!
Value – I think this value is very much on par for what this brings to the table. For Craft Distilleries pricing is always a question as costs are so much higher at the beginning that you will find many craft distillers to be at a minimum of $47 a bottle. This looks and feels like a premium product as this is a slightly higher proof than their standard bourbon so to me justifies the price.
Appearance – I must admit, the visual presentation of this Rye is quite striking. The crowning touch is an elegant depiction of a soaring eagle against a backdrop rich with symbolism. Moreover, the bottle’s silhouette exudes a sense of refinement and sophistication, elevating the Rye experience. However, I can’t help but wonder how it will fare among other American Ryes, given its departure from the familiar aesthetic. Only time will reveal its place in the market!
Nose – Grassy / Cherry / Butterscotch. It smells amazing. I can tell you that right now. It’s one of those items that you could just set it there for a while under your nose back and forth without even taking a sip yet.
Palate – Caramel / Custard / Pecan / Vanilla.
Finish – A bite of pepper, full bodied with a medium cooling sensation. This leaves you very happy and just wanted to sit back and enjoy some red meat with it!
Summary – It’s evident that every element, from its inception of this culmination of craftsmanship that it resonates with a tale of perseverance and innovation. The regal insignia adorning its packaging symbolizes not just the spirit of Mysore’s heritage but also the audacious pursuit of new horizons. Within each sip lies a narrative of resilience and triumph, echoing the blend of old-world traditions and contemporary excellence. As the flavors dance on the palate, from the tantalizing aroma to the lingering finish, Varchas transcends mere spirits, emerging as a testament to the power of passion and dedication.
“In this ever-evolving landscape of cultural fusion, Varchas stands tall, inviting all to savor not just a drink, but an experience crafted with precision and heart.”
