History – Genuine Spirit Company traces its origins to the enterprising spirit of Navy Chief Petty Officer Troy Pepito, whose twenty-year military career culminated in a transition to the world of alcohol. From the outset, Pepito’s passion for quality and craftsmanship drove him to explore the industry, starting with home brewing in his garage. This initial foray laid the groundwork for what would become P&M Beverage Imports, later evolving into the Genuine Spirit Company. Under Pepito’s leadership, the company embraced a strategic shift towards spirits, capitalizing on his expertise and a burgeoning demand for premium distilled beverages.
Collaborating with the veteran-owned Hotel Tango Distillery, Pepito expanded Genuine Spirit Company’s reach exponentially, establishing a presence in over 140 military bases worldwide and 25 states across the United States. This partnership underscored the company’s commitment to quality and innovation, solidifying its position in the market. At its core, Genuine Spirit Company remains dedicated to providing exceptional products that reflect the strength, character, and excellence of the United States Navy Chief Petty Officer.
Central to Genuine Spirit Company’s identity is its innovative approach to aging bourbon, with barrels maturing in the majestic Colorado Rockies at 5,000 feet above sea level. This unique high-altitude aging process imparts a distinctive character to their bourbon, setting it apart in an increasingly competitive landscape. Embedded within the company’s ethos are core values of legacy, quality, and customer service, guiding every decision and action taken. As Genuine Spirit Company looks to the future, its vision extends beyond mere market presence – it aspires to become the leading purveyor of premium spirits globally, setting new standards of excellence while honoring the legacy of the Chief Petty Officer through its signature product.
Appearance – I love the appearance of this bottle. It supports the spirit of the Navy Chief Petty Officer. It prides a picture of the iconic goat of Navy Chiefs as well as the Chiefs Birthday of April 1, 1893 which the year is draped across the label.
Nose – Delicately nuanced with hints of ginger, butterscotch, and hickory, this bourbon offers a tantalizing aroma reminiscent of a smoky charcoal barbecue, enticing the senses with its inviting fragrance.
Palate – Custard / Vanilla and lots of Honey. There is so much Honey on this that it brings you to want to try another to continue savoring the flavor. It’s not thin but not thick either but has more of a medium body.
Finish – The journey concludes with a flourish of nutty notes and decadent dark chocolate, leaving a lingering impression that gracefully lingers for 10-15 seconds. At 101 proof, slightly higher than the standard 90, this bourbon’s bold finish sets it apart, showcasing its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
Value – This bourbon is of perfect value and especially for someone that appreciates military history.
